Zorro the Hawk by GoldenPhoenix100 Zorro the Hawk by GoldenPhoenix100
I did this guy exactly a year ago, but was too lazy-assed to upload him. He's one of my better pencil drawings though so I figured I should. Unfortunately my scanner eats quality like I eat ice cream, so he looks a lot less messy in real life. I luvs pencils though!

As I went to click on the thumbnail for this picture, I kept muttering, "No, can't be pencil... too good to be pencil... please don't be pencil... it's not pencil..." And what do you know, it was pencil. X^D It seriously took my breath away. This is... amazing. Absolutely fantastic. :^D The eye and the shading on the beak are gorgeous...

Oh my goodness, you replied to my comment. ^w^ Now /I/ feel honored! You've been one of my biggest art idols/inspirations since I first found your speedpaints on YouTube a few years ago. You're kinda like a celebrity to me, hehe... X^3

I'm speechless.Me, miss-talks-alot. This is...i may have to make a new word. It's incomprehendblely good. I would go insane if no one noticed it. The fact that in real life it's better is unhered of. Do you mind if i use this character in a story i'm writing? I'll give full credit. He's amazing. I love how the lines were made. It looks a a greyscaled real picture, but you can tell it's drawn in a unexplainble way. You are a awesome drawer. This is so impressive. You MUST be a aweing drawer if that was a YEAR ago.

That is it! You have officially convinced me to go back in and see if I can actually match you in the graphite pencil category. Especially since I haven't truly tried this detail level in grayscale since I was 13.
On a related note, when are you going to show some color pencil works? I'm keeping my fingers crossed for those. ^^

By the way, I just noticed your scrap with Patch the other day, is he doing alright? I also don't quite see what amputating his leg had to do with the chest tumor. I'm worried.
I barely even know Patch and I'm already feeling a little like I did we were losing Ginger or Tawn. :(

Haha, penciling in detail is awesome fun, but I fear you would utterly upstage me if you went back to it - your traditional art is fabulous! I'm sure I'll one day work up the bravery to post some coloured pencil art up here, but I must warn you, I fail at it rather badly XD

Aw thanks hun! I really appreciate the thought, and yes he's doing great now thanks - we're nicknaming him "leg-o-less" (twist on LoTR's Legolas :D).
The tumor in his chest is still there and will eventually kill him, but it will take several months and he's not going to be in any pain at all from it which is the important thing :)

Lots of fun is right. Heh-heh, I dunno about that, I've likely gotten a bit rusty with them when it comes to shading. About all I do remember from last time is "ultra pressure sensitivity!"
Yeah, only bad side to pencils is trying to achieve just the right amount of control and looseness in the strokes when you're doing backgrounds. But then, that's when you do mixed media and bring in paints! Something I've yet to actually try. XD

Good to hear he's doing well. It's so weird how his health has gone downhill so fast. I mean, I've seen it happen several times but it's still crazy.

On a side note, it's great to hear you were able to get commissioned! I take it, you were let off your teaching job for the summer and thus are not getting enough income, right? Sorry I wasn't able to help with that, I wish I could.

And I may as well answer the last part from your most recent Note about the US's college tuition fees here since I forgot about it. XD
We do have a system for student loans that a fair number of students use that gets them through college pretty well. But you don't dare use it unless you're certain you can get a well-paying job immediately afterwards, 'cause you'll be in debt the rest of your life trying to pay back the loan plus the interest they put on it.
So, it works, but the price is impossibly high. It's best to simply let the parents pay if they can and are willing.

And since you asked to keep you posted about Ringling, I'm going in there about this time next month. Needless to say, I'm scared as heck. XP

Haha I agree there - I often find myself gripping the pencil tight enough to snap it in two and have to remind myself to relax XD

Thanks hun, and I'm touched that you asked after him. Tis indeed a shame when animals go under so suddenly, but as a 12 year old greyhound we were expecting something to happen sooner or later.
Thankies! :D Opening commissions again really saved my soul from wilting - infact I'd highly recommend it if you ever find yourself short on cash. I'm still getting paid from the school. but in a moment of completely unrealistic and foolish optimism, I bought myself a diving trip to Egypt which left me completely broke XD

I can't wait to hear how Ringling goes - I wish you all the very best with it, and be sure to bask in that glorious Floridian sun! Me envious!

Woah, a student loan for 50k - thats pretty immense :P That said I know that American universities are of a far higher standard than almost anywhere else I can think of so it must be worth the expense.
